Billionaire Elon Musk’s recent purchase of nearly 10% of the tech-giant Twitter caught headlines this week. It also caught the attention of many Twitter’s woke employees.
“Twitter is a company deeply committed to talking about our commitment to diversity,” said Dan Brubacher, a senior software engineer who is among the top 1% of America’s income earners.
“But when it comes to diversity of thought, we really need to pump the brakes and think: how much free speech really that good for our Democracy?”
Brubacher cited troubling events such as the unwashed proletariat electing Donald Trump in the 2016.
“It’s really very simple. Our democracy is best run by the people. Especially when we at Twitter can control what those people think.”
Brubacher explained Twitter become politically involved in the last U.S. election to prevent democracy from making the wrong choices again. When asked whether censorship itself was damaging to democracy, Brubacher responded that Twitter can’t damage democracy, people naturally support what Twitter says.
“If Twitter started allowing,” Brubacher fingerquoted, “America’s serfs to say or hear whatever they wanted, it would waste all the media power that Twitter has worked so hard to accumulate. Then what? Let voters read whatever books and newspapers they wanted. Then what?”
Hearing there was discontent brewing, Musk publicly tweeted that Twitter employees should feel free to ask him anything. In response, several Twitter employees blocked and reported Musk on Twitter for his violent and harassing speech.
